HDR Chairman Shares Career, Personal Insights

HDR Chairman Eric Keen sat down with Omaha's largest newspaper to discuss his career highlights and insights as he moves into retirement at the end of 2024.

Below is an excerpt of the introduction to the story, which appeared online in the Dec. 6 Omaha World-Herald and on the front page of the ensuing Sunday print edition.

"Eric Keen is looking forward to finally reading a book from cover to cover.

He's made it through the first 40 to 50 pages of the many novels stacked precariously around his desk before being tugged away by his duties with Omaha-based HDR, one of the largest employee-owned engineering and architectural firms in the world.

Murder medical mysteries are his favorites.

'I will do a little reading and sit back and relax and continue to watch the success of HDR,' Keen said as he prepared for a new chapter of his life.

Keen, 67, is retiring from HDR, although he will remain as chairman of the board.

It brings and end to a career that began 40 years ago as a big bridge engineer."
