Transparent, Collaborative Agricultural Research & Education

The Agricultural Sciences Building at Utah State University is a state-of-the-art facility that colocates the College of Agriculture (COA) with the Agriculture Research Service (ARS), a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. By bringing teaching and research together, the new facility is designed to encourage collaboration among researchers, faculty and students. The building is located on a prominent and historically significant quad, honoring its tradition as Utah’s only land-grant university. At the same time, the forward-looking, open design reflects Utah State University’s continuing prominence in agricultural research.

Key features include:

• Lecture halls, classrooms, study, office, and learning resource spaces support and celebrate agricultural education.
• A four-story laboratory block contains modular, and mostly open, labs, increasing the flexibility and visibility of research activities.
• An atrium at the center of the laboratory block connects the labs to offices, providing natural light deep into the laboratory floors, and enabling the continuation of an important campus pedestrian path through the building.
• Ground floor atrium café and auditorium spaces provide destinations and core facilities to encourage interaction and collaboration among scientists, faculty, and students. 
• Solar panels provide shade, in addition to producing energy.
• Operable windows bring the outdoors inside while framing spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains.
