Johnson County Collection System Asset Management Program
Johnson County Collection System Asset Management Program
Developing a Clear, Practical and Strategic Path Forward
Increasing investment needs, coupled with limited resources, has driven Johnson County Wastewater to continuously improve service delivery efficiency and effectiveness while continuing to execute day-to-day work functions.
To meet this challenge, we collaborated with the County in the development and execution of a Collection System Asset Management Program Implementation Plan, which established a clear, practical and strategic path forward.
Our long track record of supporting the collection system program includes leading the development and implementation of an Asset Management Program, basin planning and hydraulic modeling, and design and construction services.
- Asset Management: Since 2013, we have helped refine and execute strategies, practices and procedures to support continuous improvement related to aging gravity sewer infrastructure management. Since this program's development, the County has executed collection system maintenance, condition assessment, public sector renewal, and infiltration and inflow reduction programs. This effort has enabled the County to forecast asset maintenance and renewal investment needs with a high level of confidence, justify appropriate investment levels, while focusing limited resources and facilitation of knowledge transfer.
- Basin Planning and Hydraulic Modeling: Along with basin planning efforts, we have been supporting the County with on-call planning and modeling. Our team regularly evaluated collection system impacts and developed recommended system improvements to address localized issues in response to City street and storm projects, stream crossing improvements or new developments.
We have served as a design engineer for the County's collection system projects for more than 20 years. This plan identifies, prioritizes, coordinates and schedules continuous improvement initiatives at a manageable pace that strives to balance staff availability and continuous improvement objectives.
