Mike has over 30 years experience incorporating the underlying principles and detailed technical requirements of scientific research within architectural and engineering systems. Over the years, Mike has amassed particular knowledge in vivarium design including; current trends, biosafety, programming, insectaries, equipment design and installation and engineering systems. He understands how the design of a vivarium can have a significant impact not only on the welfare of the animals, but also on the people that work in these facilities.
He works alongside institutions to ensure appropriate space types are identified for the intended research, rooms are right sized, and the overall design provides an optimal and efficient work environment. Mike is actively involved with AALAS and has presented numerous sessions and workshops on topics including operational efficiency, biosafety, flexibility and adaptability in laboratory environments.
