In a joint venture with Architectus, HDR provided the architectural services and health facility planning for the Stage 1C Redevelopment of Werribee Mercy Hospital.

In addition to replacing a few components of the façade from Stage 1A, the project added a four-level extension comprising of six operating theatres, 64-bed inpatient unit, which includes eight critical care beds, as well as a new central sterile supply department. Stage 1C also includes a new standalone multi-level car park as well as extension and refurbishment works which will improve the existing loading dock and kitchen.

In addition to the new buildings a study was undertaken to develop a new masterplan to accommodate the staged redevelopment of the site over the next 15 years. The masterplan provided for significant forecast growth in demand for health services, while maintaining continuity of service delivery. It established a framework that will see the hopsital increase from 298 to nearly 500 inpatient beds in 2026, while providing a staged development with capacity for further growth beyond this timeframe.
