Leveraging ArcGIS for AutoCAD to Streamline Data Sharing

In 2022, Dominion Energy North Carolina began work on the Kannapolis to Concord System Pipeline Expansion Project, delivering natural gas to underserved areas in North Carolina's Rowan and Cabarrus counties. HDR was called upon to support, bringing in a multidisciplinary team of experts in environmental services, geotechnical engineering, land surveying, land acquisition, data management and non-environmental permitting.

About 40 team members had access to project data, so the team needed a solution to keep data in one place and everyone on the same page.

This feature from Esri, a GIS software company, details how HDR leveraged ArcGIS for AutoCAD to create a central hub for project information. The one-stop-shop software solution facilitated easier access to the same data, improving coordination, accuracy and client communication.

"ArcGIS for AutoCAD has been the perfect tool for the Kannapolis to Concord System Expansion Project," said Andrew Zimba, HDR's GIS manager on the project, in the article. "It has helped people stay aware of what others on the project are doing. Teammates are easily sharing up-to-date design information with each other to create a more collaborative and efficient approach."
