Centralized Research Services Facility
An Innovative Approach to Centralized Equipment Processing
UC San Diego’s (UCSD) new Centralized Research Services Facility includes one floor dedicated to centralized cage wash operations together with two floors of administrative offices to house the Animal Care and Welfare Programs, along with various other departments from UC San Diego’s School of Medicine. The facility is within a mile of 80% of research facilities on campus that use animals.
Key features include:
- Pre-sanitation and post-sanitation activities are segregated in order to keep clean and sterilized equipment from being contaminated to enable the delivery of clean and sterile equipment back to the originating research facilities spread across the UC San Diego campus.
- Sanitized and unsanitized operations are supported by separate loading docks, entrances and exits, storage and staff support spaces. Vehicles are cleaned and decontaminated on site.
- Visibility between the sanitized and unsanitized operations and glazing to the exterior at break rooms create a more pleasant working environment.
- Administrative offices have private offices inboard with open plan offices located on the building’s windowed perimeter.
- Hotelling and group meeting areas provide flexibility and are available on a first come first serve basis.
- Collaborative spaces encourage interaction and a sense of community within the space.
