Fire and Life Safety Engineering

Fire and life safety is an area of specialized design requiring extensive knowledge on implementing code and regulation requirements that can differ based on your geographic location. At HDR, we have created our FLS practice with the fundamental belief that design is critically enhanced when integrated with hands-on field experience to help improve engineering solutions and manage client risk.

Our staff has a background working as National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, or NICET, system designers and installers, plan examiners, certified fire/electrical inspectors, firefighters, code officials, insurance loss control, and/or commissioning authorities. We combine our vast understanding of local and international codes and standards with our bespoke process to develop code compliant solutions unique to your facility.

From planning and design to commissioning, or PAT/FAT, our team develops criteria, design, studies, reviews, and performance testing of U.S. Department of Defense fire protection systems. We understand the complexity and intricate science behind the components (inductor, flow control valve, foam tank, and foam generator) which allows our people to troubleshoot and provide solutions in a timely fashion.

Our approach to every project is built on a foundation of trust and understanding. We seek to understand client requirements, analyze current conditions and provide a complete and biddable set of construction documents.
