HDR employees helped address food insecurity in their communities through more than $400,000 in grants to local food banks.

The grants follow the annual Day of Giving employee fundraiser for the HDR Foundation and global philanthropic funds in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. The grants include $381,000 awarded to 95 U.S. food banks, CA$23,000 to 11 Canada food banks, £6,000 to four U.K. food banks and AU$5,000 to an Australia food bank.

“Our employees share a passion for making an impact in the communities where they live and work,” said Rex Fisher, chair of the HDR Foundation board. “Helping people in need really unites us around a cause each year on our Day of Giving.”

The grants were part of a special incentive for offices reaching donation goals on the Day of Giving.

“I’m passionate about supporting local food banks, which is why I’m thrilled that HDR launched the Day of Giving challenge,” said Kerry Clifford, health principal in HDR’s Ottawa office and a member of the HDR Canada Fund Advisory Committee. “The current economy, employment instability and rising grocery costs strain social support programs. Local food banks witness a sharp increase in demand. Beyond sparse pantries in the home, they now provide support for essential nutrition. This initiative spreads support across our office locations, benefiting our neighbors and families in need.”
