Tuesday, September 24

Take 3: Design Innovations in Subacute Care

Speakers include Barbara Miszkiel (HDR), Mahina Wright (HDR), and Wayne Walker (Government of Prince Edward Island)

Specific design developments in sub-acute care can result in improved health outcomes and decreased load on acute care settings. Focusing on three distinct health sectors — hospice, rehabilitation and mental health — this session examines their unique design and care model interventions to focus on the parallels that are essential to them all: the augmentation of patient agency, care of the whole person, and the dismantling of divisions.

Environmental Justice: Henry Ford Health's Pledge to the U.S. Justice 40 Initiative

Henry Ford Health's campus expansion project is part of a broader development vision in the Detroit New Center neighborhood, where the organization began more than a century ago. Environmental Justice is at the core of Henry Ford Health’s mission: a commitment to Michigan’s Healthy Climate Plan and the U.S. Justice 40 Pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Patient Access Impact: Virginia Design Innovations

Join four healthcare executive leaders making a significant impact transforming patient access across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Moderated by Sandy Tkacz, this panel discussion will explore four strategic projects and how they are transforming patient care and access in Virginia. These dynamic and visionary leaders will share their strategies, experiences leading design vision, and how these projects have impacted their organizations, patients, and the community.

Emerging Leader

HDR's Yaolong Wang, health planner in San Francisco, was selected as an Emerging Leader in the Symposium Emerging Leaders Scholarship Program for 2024, which recognizes individuals with less than 10 years of experience in healthcare design and construction.
