Mulgrave Senior School
Mulgrave Senior School
A High School Modeled after a University
Mulgrave School is a West Vancouver independent school that follows the International Baccalaureate program for students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. As the inaugural project of Mulgrave’s new master plan (also completed by HDR), the goal of the Senior School was to create an environment that feels more like a university than a high school; a space that is stimulating, welcoming, flexible, and supports quality learning. The resulting state-of-the-art facility supports 21st Century Learning principles.
Key features include:
- Classrooms in a variety of configurations and sizes that support various learning styles through flexible configurations, with smaller collaborative areas and larger group spaces.
- Wide, non-linear arteries — rather than straight corridors — surrounded by niches and nooks offering options for students to collaborate, talk, relax or work independently in safe, supervise-able spaces.
- Flat-screen monitors, projection screens and projectors in classrooms to facilitate flexible instruction and learning.
- A fully accessible green roof providing stormwater retention and roof insulation, and serving as an outdoor play area and learning space.
- A low-profile, tiered amphitheatre creating seating that looks onto a temporary stage location with a spectacular background view of Burrard Inlet.
"We opened the new senior school today and everyone in the community has been blown away by what an outstanding facility this is. Many congratulations to the HDR | CEI team for creating such a magnificent space.”
John Wray, Head of School, Mulgrave School
