The Challenges and Opportunities of Onsite Power Generation for Data Centers
The International Energy Agency attributes about 1.5% of total global electricity use to data centres and data transmission networks. Demand for electricity from various sectors, including data centres, continues to grow rapidly and is superseding existing generation and distribution capabilities. Additionally, the move to replace fossil fuels with renewable sources has already led to constraints and intermittent availability of electricity across the world. There is a compelling need to source alternative power generation solutions that are both sustainable and reliable.
HDR's Robert Thorogood, client development director, explores the challenges and opportunities of onsite power generation for data centres in a recently published article.
