HDR’s UK Employees Sponsor Charitable Grants
Five HDR United Kingdom Fund grants totaling £19,400 will support causes with personal significance to HDR employees.
Funded by employee donations across HDR’s four U.K. offices, the grants were recently announced at an annual client event at Drapers’ Hall in London.
“At HDR, we recognize the importance of giving back to communities, and I am very proud that this year the U.K. is part of this incredible cause,” said Richard Whitaker, managing director of HDR’s building engineering services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “What makes it more meaningful is that we are supporting causes that are close to the hearts of our employees. Having seen the joy it brings to those nominated for the first round of grants, I hope that this will inspire even more employees to support the HDR United Kingdom Fund in the future.”
Each grant is sponsored by an HDR employee.
“Thanks to HDR employees’ contributions and kindness, the grant awarded to Whale Song Music Therapy will help provide free therapy sessions for young adults with a learning disability, in a disadvantaged community,” said Geanina Dobrota, Whale Song Music Therapy management accountant. “As sponsor, this is a rewarding experience, and I cannot express enough the unique feeling of joy of contributing to the community wellness.”
Other grants include support for a mentoring program for teenagers experiencing the loss of a loved one, a FIRST LEGO League STEM program and safety improvements to a school playground.
“We have a lot of work to do in creating and sustaining healthy communities in our local neighborhoods, and the generous donation helps us get that important work done,” said Aminul Islam, an HDR structural engineer who sponsored a grant to the Centre for Social Inclusion for a wellness program for underserved community members. “My unique role as an HDR employee, chairman of the recipient charity and resident of the local beneficiary communities, gives me immense personal fulfillment.”
