Brian Schaller Named a 2023 Healthcare Design Rising Star
Brian Schaller, AIA, NCARB, senior project designer at HDR, has been named a 2023 Healthcare Design Magazine Rising Star. The magazine grants the awards to individuals involved in healthcare design for fewer than ten years.
“I’m honored to receive this recognition at this point in my healthcare design journey, which began with my college thesis on architectural healing environments,” Schaller said. “Delving into creating spaces for people in their most vulnerable state fascinated me, and it's intriguing how spaces wield the potential to facilitate healing. The way design covertly contributes to the healing process is a captivating realm I'm committed to unraveling and exploring.”
Based in Los Angeles, Schaller has made significant contributions to both the industry and HDR through his work on Cedars Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital, Sharp Memorial Hospital, Primary Children’s Wasatch Canyon Behavioral Health Hospital, and many others.
“Brian has become a trusted partner and leader for healthcare projects,” said Eric Meub, AIA, LEED AP, director of design for health at HDR. “When a designer has confidence, they can change the industry; and Brian has taken on projects, mentorship programs, and has grown into a confidence that our healthcare clients have come to notice and trust.”
In 2022, Schaller and several colleagues competed on stage at the 2022 Healthcare Design Conference + Expo Breaking Through competition where their concept, Bionica, took first place. Schaller will accept the award at the 2023 Healthcare Design Conference + Expo in November in New Orleans.
