HDR Transit Manager Kim Magee, P.E., has been recognized by Mass Transit magazine as one of 40 outstanding young individuals exemplifying leadership in the public transit industry in the U.S.

Magee has exhibited a strong commitment to designing and tailoring safe and reliable mobility solutions to improve communities and provide equitable, reliable access to transportation. She contributed her engineering expertise to dozens of light and heavy rail projects in Southern California and beyond. Most recently, she has shown her leadership as HDR’s deputy project manager on the multibillion-dollar Los Angeles-San Diego Rail Corridor Agency — or LOSSAN — Rail Realignment Project, one of the largest rail projects in the San Diego area. She also played a pivotal role throughout the design and construction of the Elvira to Morena Double Track Project, a rail project under the Mid-Coast Corridor Program, for the San Diego Association of Governments.

“It’s an honor to be recognized with this award for doing the work that I love,” Magee said. “In an industry that is constantly evolving, it’s inspiring to be at the forefront of innovative transit solutions for our clients that are also helping people move safely and efficiently.”

Named a 2023 Top Young Professional by Engineering News-Record California for her exemplary technical work, Magee also makes time to help others at all levels of their careers. She is active in the WTS International San Diego chapter where she serves on the scholarship committee and helps promote and plan events to fund scholarships for high school, undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in a career in transportation. Magee is also known for her support of her colleagues. She often supports new staff making the transition from public agencies to the private sector, providing a trusted voice and friendly encouragement during what can be a stressful adjustment.

“Kim has proved herself a trusted client advisor and a valuable resource for those at all career levels of the transit community,” said HDR Global Transit Director Matt Tucker. “In addition to that, her involvement with many large-scale transit projects has positively impacted communities seeking to enhance transportation infrastructure. Kim’s commitment to furthering our industry on all fronts is truly deserving of this award and recognition.”
