Sea Containers House
Sea Containers House
The iconic Sea Containers House sits on London’s famed South Bank overlooking the River Thames. Extensive refurbishment was undertaken by HDR on the project with the addition of a new build element. This created the Mondrian Hotel, with 300-plus guestrooms and suites, a health spa, private theatre, restaurant, cocktail lounge and rooftop bar. The development provides 250,000 square feet of Cat A refurbished office space, a 100,000 square feet new commercial office block all alongside the Mondrian, which has reinvigorated this stretch of the South Bank.
Both the hotel and offices are served by common base build plant, optimising sustainability and energy efficiency between the multiple users. The installation of low energy air conditioning and incorporating building controls allows for 24-hour monitoring/targeting of energy use. We also facilitated the replacement of the old boilers and heat transfer equipment with high efficiency hot water and heat recovery systems. We were also appointed as the commissioning validation engineers for the construction and fit out of the development.
Our scope of service for Sea Containers House covered information and communications technology passive and active infrastructures, audiovisual services and electronic security services. The primary function of the passive and active design was to provide a flexible ICT infrastructure to support the landlord’s IT services, CCTV and door access systems and audiovisual systems across the whole site which included a hotel and commercial office spaces to approximately 350,000 square feet. In addition, the infrastructure also provided an integrated network for guest rooms, front and back of house including restaurants and private cinema. The scheme also included provision of a wireless and 4G infrastructure for guests and tenants.
