Endnote
The Opacity Initiative is HDR’s yearly design review, where outside experts from varied disciplines are invited to evaluate our work and offer their feedback. In 2022, we hosted the event in New York City, with five outside critics who reviewed and critiqued a portfolio of work from our offices around the globe.
This book traces the New York Opacity event and the 12 projects the jurors recognised. The title of this sixth Opacity book, Endnote, is a response to the jury’s discourse and selection. Traditionally, endnotes appear at the end of a book or chapter, providing research citations, further reading, or complicating issues that the author feels are necessary to understand the text fully. Similarly, this Opacity publication emphasizes the importance of context through endnotes — each awarded project receives its own set of endnotes as further insight into the design and the jury’s selection.
