How to Determine Return on Investment for Digital Delivery in Transportation
HDR Leaders Explain Research into Digital Delivery Costs and Benefits in New Experts Talk Interview
Digital delivery has a host of benefits in the design and construction of capital projects. But as transportation agencies grapple with competing priorities, they need to know the bottom line. Is it worth the investment?
Two of our top experts led a research study to find out. HDR Transportation BIM Manager Alexa Mitchell and Director of Economics and Statistics Chris Williges headed this 18-month study, funded by the Federal Highway Administration Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center through the Transportation Research Board. They were able to quantify the benefits and costs of digital delivery through rigorous economic tools.
In the latest interview from HDR’s Experts Talk series, Mitchell and Williges explain the study, the benefits and costs of digital delivery and a new tool they developed to help agencies determine individualized benefits and costs.
Mitchell, P.E., is one of the premier industry leaders on BIM for infrastructure. She is active throughout the industry, drawing from her public and private sector experience to help clients with their digital delivery needs as well as serve on a variety of high-level working groups and committees.
Williges leads HDR’s economics work. He brings more than 30 years of transportation planning, economics, engineering and strategic assignments experience to help clients leverage economics to make better informed transportation planning and maintenance decisions.
