Sean Flaherty
Transportation Sustainability and Resiliency Director
“My role at HDR offers an incredible opportunity to combine professional experience, education and volunteer work to successfully position HDR as a preferred service provider for the transportation market sector — typically the largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions — to advance sustainability, resiliency and equity in the communities we call home.”
Sean leads sustainability and resiliency efforts across our transportation-related service offerings. He uses his expertise to help clients build sustainable, resilient infrastructure that will serve current and future generations. He also serves as a link between our broad transportation and resiliency expertise, connecting our subject matter experts with the clients who will use their services to define and actualize measurable achievements that can be scaled and replicated. He supports services throughout the full program life cycle, as well as supporting sustainability visioning and long-range sustainability and resiliency planning.
Prior to HDR, Sean’s career centered on advancing sustainability efforts across the Carolinas, with public sector, private and nonprofit experience. He served as the energy and transportation program manager for the Central Pines Regional Council, where he managed projects focused on regional, state and national sustainable development. In his career, he has developed or expanded programs to prepare for electric vehicle readiness, improve sustainability outcomes in Charlotte’s business district and coordinate new sustainability offices across North Carolina. In 2005 he launched North Carolina State University’s first environmental-focused spring break service trip, which continues today.
