Michael Schmedt, GISP
Transportation Geospatial Solutions Director
“I’m excited about the developments and trends in the rapidly evolving geospatial technology space, such as GeoBIM, FME, GeoAI and a surge in the adoption of emerging technologies. This influx of massive amounts of data and improvements in data processing will pave the way for more accurate and dynamic spatial analysis benefiting our project deliverables.”
Michael leads a team of geospatial professionals and transportation data scientists in developing data-driven solutions that use geographic information system technology to provide location intelligence across the full project life cycle, including planning, environmental permitting, design, regulatory compliance, construction management, digital delivery and asset management. The technology helps project teams gain real-time operational awareness of projects that often span state lines and disciplines.
With more than 20 years in the transportation industry, Michael has experience helping clients develop new, tailored approaches to data acquisition, processing and management that improve data accessibility and application during project development and delivery. He recently served as technical advisor on the Ontario Line Transit Project, where he led a team that received an award for conceptualizing and developing the Ontario Line TA Planning Portal. It provides the project team with a single source for easy access to data and information through discipline-specific web applications for reviewing the latest 2D alignment, properties, utilities, environmental impacts and 3D station design.
Immersed within the industry, Michael is on the technology committee of the American Railway Development Association and serves as a member of the Central Florida GIS Workshop. He regularly presents at industry forums and has won the Savvy Web Mapping Application Award three times at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials GIS for Transportation Symposium.
