Powering 7,500 Homes with Wind Energy

Electricity for Alaska’s 500-mile Railbelt region has historically relied almost exclusively on natural gas. Driven by demand for an alternative power source to add reliability and cost savings, Fire Island Wind LLC turned to our team to help develop an 11-turbine wind farm capable of generating 18 megawatts of electricity —enough to power 7,500 homes.

We worked closely with Fire Island Wind to provide owner’s engineer services including project planning, geotechnical data review, design-build RFP preparation, solicitation for Transportation Indicative Pricing, and preliminary design to procure an EPCM contractor to design and construct the project. We also provided quality assurance reviews during construction. 

The Fire Island Wind project began generating clean, renewable energy in the fall of 2012.
