Western Cancer Centre Dubbo
Western Cancer Centre Dubbo
Opened in 2021, the new Western Cancer Centre Dubbo provides life-saving cancer care to thousands of people living in regional and remote areas in Western North South Wales, including the communities of Walgett, Bourke and Cobar. Designed as a culturally appropriate, safe and welcoming place for the community, it significantly expands chemotherapy services in the region and, for the first time, provides access to Radiation Therapy, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) scan services in Dubbo.
The purpose-built two-storey centre sits alongside the Clinical Services Building, enhancing the delivery of healthcare available at the Dubbo Base Hospital campus. It provides patients access to cancer diagnostic and treatment services closer to home, often saving hours of travel to Sydney or other locations. The centre also helps attract and retain highly-skilled oncology nurses and specialists to the region.
HDR's successful work on the Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment Stages 3 and 4 resulted in being awarded the WCCD, and the two projects were completed simultaneously.
