Dubbo Base Hospital Redevelopment
Dubbo Base Hospital Redevelopment
The Dubbo Base Hospital (DBH) Redevelopment Stages 3 & 4 delivers much-needed regional healthcare infrastructure to remote communities. It secures DBH as the major referral centre and acute care hospital for specialty services, providing additional services to meet the growing demands of the Dubbo and Western New South Wales region.
HDR’s work on the DBH Redevelopment spanned almost seven years, from a review of the Stages 3 & 4 Masterplan to Construction. Our revised Masterplan identified opportunities for improvement by relocating the new Clinical Services Building with the critical mass of the existing hospital. This improved clinical efficiencies, patient, staff and traffic flow, and ultimately provided a superior outcome for the local health service.
The new Clinical Services Building, with a new main entrance and drop-off zone, includes a surgical inpatient unit, emergency department, short-stay unit, medical imaging, critical care floor, ambulatory care unit, renal dialysis unit, and additional car parking. The project also included refurbishment of the now-vacated maternity wards, converting them into administration offices and medical records space.
Prominent Aboriginal artwork provides a welcoming feature for Dubbo’s large Indigenous community and aims to positively impact the well-being of patients and their families. Integrated lighting by HDR gives the artworks due prominence.
Through our work on the Stages 3 & 4 Redevelopment, we were awarded the Western Cancer Centre Dubbo and delivered the projects simultaneously.
