HDR’s Nguyen and Jones Recognized by WTS Chapters in Colorado, Arizona

Two of HDR’s transportation professionals have been recognized by their respective WTS chapters for their work supporting women in the transportation industry. In recognition of her work advocating for doing the right thing and creating opportunities for young professionals, HDR’s Chau Nguyen, P.E., has been named WTS Colorado Person of the Year. And Arriana Jones was recognized as WTS Metro Phoenix’s New Member of the Year.
HDR has a long history of involvement with WTS International, an organization dedicated to the professional advancement of women in transportation. Across North America, more than 300 employees participate regularly in WTS chapters, including more than 30 who serve as chapter officers, board members or committee leaders.
As a transportation client development leader in HDR’s Denver office, Nguyen has developed a reputation for high quality delivery with an impressive array of clients in the state. Nguyen has worked on diverse projects that are among the largest and most complex in the state while also finding time to mentor and provide technical leadership to younger staff.
“Nguyen leads by example, consistently holding herself to the highest standards and ensuring that her team not only understands those expectations but has the tools to meet those expectations,” said HDR’s Colorado Transportation Business Development Leader Jason Longsdorf. “Her approach to leadership is grounded in the belief that success is achieved through collaboration, mentorship and support, and she consistently demonstrates these commitments through her actions.”
In Arizona, transportation planner Arriana Jones was honored as New Member of the Year. After joining as a mentee in the chapter’s program, she became acquainted with its diversity, equity and inclusion work. She became an enthusiastic volunteer for the chapter’s DEI initiatives. Outside of WTS, she has also participated in mentoring events with Arizona State University’s planning program, helping the next generation of planners.
“Arriana takes ownership of everything she does, and it is evident in the outstanding quality of her work,” said Michael LaBianca, who leads the firm’s transportation planning practice in the area. “I’m truly honored to have the opportunity to work alongside this young professional who consistently demonstrates HDR’s values.”
