(OMAHA, Neb. - September 2, 2009) - Ed Bishop, director of Project Delivery for Environmental & Resource Management at HDR, has been appointed to another three-year term on the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council (NAS/NRC) Committee on Toxicology Subcommittee on Acute Exposure Guideline Levels (AEGLs). The committee, whose members represent government, industry and academic institutions, including several international members, reviews research related to a variety of chemicals of concern and determines appropriate exposure levels.
The establishment of AEGLs is an outgrowth of the congressionally mandated EPA response to the December 1984 accidental release of methyl isocyante from a Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, that killed thousands. The NRC committee provides an independent review of AEGLs recommended by the EPA/NAC.
Bishop, a certified industrial hygienist and professional engineer with a doctorate in environmental health sciences, also serves as a member of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Toxicology.
